Our Fabrics
Every Subellotti piece is made from natural fibres selected for their quality, their feel and their ability to last.
Cashmere
Cashmere is the finest natural fibre used in knitwear. It comes from the undercoat of mountain goats, combed rather than shorn, and is valued for the combination of softness and insulation it provides. A well-made cashmere piece is lighter than wool and warmer than cotton — and with correct care, it improves over years of wear rather than deteriorating.
Our cashmere pieces are knitted in multiple plies — typically 3-ply through 8-ply — which determines the weight and structure of the finished garment. Heavier ply weights produce pieces with more body and warmth. Lighter constructions breathe more freely and are suited to transitional seasons.
Merino Wool
Merino is a fine-grade wool known for its softness relative to standard wool. It is breathable, temperature-regulating and resistant to odour — properties that make it well-suited to pieces worn close to the skin. Our merino pieces are selected for fineness: the finer the fibre, the softer the handle and the less likelihood of irritation.
Cotton
Our T-shirts and lighter summer pieces are made from premium cotton selected for its structure and finish. Where most cotton loses its shape quickly, the cotton we use is chosen for its ability to hold its form wash after wash. The result is a piece that remains clean and precise in its silhouette over time.
Structure and Softness
The relationship between structure and softness is one of the central challenges in knitwear. A piece that is too soft loses its shape. A piece that prioritises structure can feel stiff or heavy against the skin. The gauge of the knit, the ply of the yarn and the finishing process all affect where a piece sits on this spectrum.
At Subellotti, we aim for pieces that hold their shape without sacrificing the softness that makes natural fibres worth wearing. This balance is not achieved by formula — it requires judgement, experience and a willingness to reject materials that do not meet the standard.
