The 5 Timeless Wardrobe Staples Every Man Should Own
Share
A useful wardrobe starts with pieces that suit the way you live. Material, proportion and versatility matter more than collecting clothes for every passing trend.
These five examples come from Subellotti’s knitwear and trouser range. Choose the shapes and weights that work for your climate, existing wardrobe and everyday occasions.
1. A cashmere turtleneck
A turtleneck creates a clean neckline and works with denim, knitted trousers or a coat you already own. Check that the neck feels comfortable and that the chest and shoulders allow natural movement.
The Ribes navy cashmere turtleneck is made in Umbria from 100% cashmere with Loro Piana yarn. Its flat-ribbed construction adds texture without relying on a prominent logo.
2. A substantial cashmere crewneck
A crewneck offers a different neckline and can be worn on its own or over a suitable base layer. Consider the weight of the knit as well as its composition: substantial cashmere serves a different purpose from a fine, lightweight layer.
The Nuvola Crewneck in Latte uses an 8-ply cashmere construction and weighs approximately 600g. The warm neutral colour can be combined with navy, grey or denim.
3. A long-sleeve knitted polo
A knitted polo brings a collar to an outfit while keeping the character of knitwear. Look for a placket that lies cleanly and enough room through the chest when you sit and move.
The Firenze navy cashmere polo is a regular-fit, long-sleeve design in 100% cashmere with Loro Piana yarn, a 12-gauge knit and three mother-of-pearl buttons. Wear it with trousers for dinner or with denim for a less formal combination.
4. An extra-fine merino half-zip
A half-zip lets you change the neckline without changing the whole outfit. Try it both open and closed, and check the collar and chest with the layer you intend to wear underneath.
The Classic Half-Zip in Dark Navy is knitted in Umbria from 100% extra-fine merino Cashwool® by Zegna Baruffa. Its regular fit suits everyday combinations for work, travel and weekends.
5. Knitted trousers
Trousers should work with your chosen knitwear in both proportion and feel. Check the waistband, rise and length rather than choosing from a size label alone.
Explore Subellotti knitted trousers, including the Riposo cashmere designs. Their rib-knit waistband and adjustable drawstring offer a different construction from conventional tailored trousers.
Choose pieces that work together
You do not need to buy all five. Start with a piece you can combine with clothes you already enjoy wearing, then build around colours, weights and proportions that make sense for you.
